Engraving Memorial Cups & Sheilds

If you are thinking of presenting a cup or shield in memory of a loved one there are a few things to consider, you will most likely be looking for something that will look good for a long time to come.

These items are usually presented to clubs, schools and organisations where the person has been involved so their  memory lives on.

Silver plated cups and wooden shields will stand the test of time, and as they are mostly used as perpetual awards they have the facility to engrave the yearly recipients name and the year they were presented with it, forming  a record for the club/school which over the years builds up to quite a history.

To do this you need a cup with a plated plinth band that can be engraved each year, and we always sell our cups with the bands on them because we see so many that have had shields or plates pinned to them and in the end the base of the cups crack and break and look very untidy. This is never a good look with a loved ones name on it.

Wood shields are the other alternative as they have room on the top band for the name of the shield and the middle piece will say what it is for, around this there are numerous small record shields to be engraved each year and when they become full we usually take the oldest one off and pin it to the back putting the latest result in the space this provides.

Both of the above can be kept clean and tidy for a long time.

The  usual engraving example for these items would be

The David Dale Memorial Cup  (or Shield)

Underneath and smaller could be what it is presented for ie  Endeavour – Winner – Division 1 Winners etc and in the case of a shield this would be engraved  in the centre piece.

Of course there are lots of other alternatives and we endeavour to be helpful and considerate as we understand this is a difficult item to purchase.

What’s The Perfect Message to be Engraved on your Gift!

Many of our customers at Plymouth Trophyman are concerned when it comes to engraving gift items, what to put on them, they are not sure what is the correct format.

Simply there isn’t one, a rule does apply and that is to keep it simple, we are not writing a note to someone we are marking a gift with a personal message and it will mean so much more to the person receiving it, who it is for, what it is for and a date, you may also like to say who it is from.

An example  on a tankard or hip flask

On your 21st

Love Mum & Dad

On your retirement

From all of your colleagues

At Plymouth Trophyman

Often the day/month is left off retirement gifts as Dave may carry on working for an extra week or two and a date would be irrelevant.

Weddings and Christenings will always be marked with the day/month/year as those gifts are a reminder for anniversaries and are far less likely to be changed at the last minute.

Gifts to loved ones can have a small kiss x  –  glass items can be engraved copying children’s handwriting, a great idea for gifts to Mum, Dad or Grandparents.

At Plymouth Trophyman we will engrave any item you purchase and gift wrap for free as an added service

Engraving All Around Devon!

Posted in Uncategorized by plymouthtrophyman on September 30, 2009

At Plymouth Trophyman – Engraving Service we have had many strange requests over the years we have been engraving and can normally accomodate to all our customers needs. But recently we were asked to engrave a porcelain ornament…

The thought of jigging that up into an engraving machine and trying to engrave it without damage to the item, plus the fact that porcelain will not engrave had us pondering. The only way round it of course was to sit it on a base and engrave a base plate for it.

What a fantastic season the Devon Junior and Minor league had last year, bagging many trophies throughout Devon! Let’s hope that this season – which is well underway – is good for all those taking part. At Plymouth Trophyman we send you our best wishes for another good season and look forward to next year’s trophy presentaion night.

Sailing Trophy

Plymouth Trophyman have a fantastic glass sailing trophy at Glass Awards Devon. It’s a very good copy of a yacht and as sailors ourselves we love it! It hasn’t been a bad sailing season but the sun could have shone a little more here on the river Tamar. Now we are getting ready for presentation night as are all of the big sailing clubs. As winter draws ever closer it brightens up October and November with “lift out” approaching and the Laying Up Supper. Now is the time to look for trophies Devon with Glass Awards Devon being very popular.
